SI Diamond Technology Announces The Successful Demonstration Of Carbon Cold Cathode Electron Emission For Bio-Decontamination Of Warfare Agents
Austin, Texas – January 31, 2002 – SI Diamond Technology, Inc. (OTC BB: SIDT) through its subsidiary, Field Emission Picture Element Technology, Inc. (FEPET) announced today that it successfully demonstrated the potential of the use of carbon cold cathodes as a source for bio- decontamination of warfare agents, consistent with a portable, handheld and compact unit. The study and the demonstration were executed under the Department of the Air Force Small Business Innovation Research, Phase I Contract (see press release of March 27, 2001), and the results of bio-decontamination of stainless steel surfaces were reported to FEPET by Air Force personnel.
Recently the United States Postal Service selected costly technology for mail sterilization utilizing electron beam (e-beam) technology. These systems are using high-flux electron beams that can accommodate large quantities of objects to be sterilized. In many applications, such as for home or battlefield sterilization, portable or compact units are necessary. The successful demonstration shows the potential of utilizing carbon electron filed emission to develop and introduce such systems in the near future.
