SI Diamond's FEPET Subsidiary Officially Changes Name To Applied Nanotech Inc.
Austin, Texas – February 25, 2002 – SI Diamond Technology (OTC BB: SIDT) today announced its subsidiary, Field Emission Picture Element Technology (FEPET), has officially changed its name to Applied Nanotech, Inc. The name Applied Nanotech Inc., was chosen to more accurately describe and reflect the four areas in which the company conducts research and development and generates products and applications using nanotechnology. The four areas are: carbon nanotubes, metalized nanoparticles, silicon nanocrystals, and nanowires.
Applied Nanotech Inc., currently has an extensive proprietary patent portfolio, with over 68 patents issued and 86 pending. This portfolio of patents currently supports the following applications: field emission displays, artificial dielectric materials, high intensity light sources, densely packed nanowires, decontamination of biological agents, single end multiplex electron sources, and portable industrial and medical X-Ray tubes.
In industrial applications, Applied Nanotech's expertise and patents in carbon nanotube cathodes were successfully used to assist Oxford Instruments in developing and manufacturing the world's first portable X-Ray equipment. The Horizon 600 Hand Held XRF Spectrometer from Oxford Instruments is used for alloy sorting, materials identification and is also suitable for inorganic analysis applications (see press release of May 4, 2001).
"The new name, Applied Nanotech Inc., reflects the company's position as a leader in nanotechnology research and development," says Marc Eller, Chairman and CEO of SI Diamond Technology. "Our vast patent portfolio, our knowledge of how to apply this intellectual property to multiple applications, and the ability to convert concepts into practical applications, differentiates us from other nanotechnology companies.
SI Diamond Technology, Inc., and Applied Nanotech, Inc., will be sponsors and have a booth at the upcoming NANOVENTURES 2002 conference to be held March 6-8, 2002 in Richardson, Texas. The conference is focusing on the "path to the commercialization of nanaotechnology." The conference website is www.nanoventures.ws.
