Applied Nanotech Inc. Announces New Hydrogen Sensor
Austin, Texas – June 6, 2002 – SI Diamond Technology (OTC BB: SIDT) today announced that its subsidiary, Applied Nanotech Inc. (ANI), has successfully prototyped hydrogen sensors based on nanotechnology. These sensors are comprised of sub-100 nanometer elements and they are superior to other commercially available sensors. ANI's sensors are exceptional based on sensitivity, selectivity, stability, power, and price.
According to Dr. A. Peter Jardine Ph.D., from DCH Technology, "Effective hydrogen sensors will be critical in the safe deployment of mobile, hydrogen-based vehicles and stationary hydrogen-derived power sources. Hydrogen is emerging as a primary fuel source to replace oil- based fuels."
The ANI sensor is responsive at hydrogen levels ranging from 1% to 100% at room temperature with reaction time of a few seconds. These sensors are not sensitive to humidity. ANI is currently developing sensor sensitivity in the 10 to 1000 parts per million range for hydrogen and in parallel, is generating stability/lifetime data.
Key features of this new nanotechnology are that it does not require external power, the sensing circuitry is simple, and operates at less than 1 milliwatt. ANI's technology and sensing circuitry is expected to produce one of the lowest-cost, high quality hydrogen sensors on the market.
Dr. Zvi Yaniv, President and CEO of ANI stated, "This is another example of how our researchers apply nanotechnology for immediate applications. We believe that our new hydrogen sensor will be compatible with hydrogen based vehicles that are currently evolving from development to production."
